How to Brew Annapurna Amber

  1. Heat the water: Heat fresh, filtered water to 190–195°F (just off a rolling boil).
  2. Measure the leaf: Place 1 to 1.5 teaspoons (2–3 grams) of Annapurna Amber loose leaf into your infuser or teapot per 8 oz cup.
  3. Steep: Pour the hot water over the leaves and steep for 2 to 3 minutes, shorter for a softer cup, longer for deeper intensity.
  4. Re-steep: Re-steep the same leaves 2 to 3 times, adding 15 to 30 seconds to each successive infusion to reveal new caramel, marmalade, and walnut notes.

For a softer, more delicate cup, start closer to 190°F. For a deeper, dessert-like cup, brew nearer 195°F and slightly increase leaf instead of over-steeping.

FAQ about Organic Nepali Oolong Tea Loose Leaf – Annapurna Amber

Everything you need to know before your first cup.

What makes Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea unique?
Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea is a rare, high-mountain Nepal oolong from Ilam, crafted in a Darjeeling-style roll. Grown around 6,500 feet, this USDA Organic, single-origin loose leaf oolong delivers an amber liquor with layered notes of caramel, malt, marmalade and toasted grain. It was awarded 2nd Place in the Dark Oolong category at the North American Tea Championship.
How do I brew Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea?
For Western-style brewing, start with 1 teaspoon of Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong per 8 oz of filtered water at about 190 to 195°F. Stay closer to 190°F for a softer, more delicate cup, or brew nearer 195°F if you prefer a richer, more intense profile. Steep 2 to 3 minutes, then adjust to taste. You can re-steep the same leaves 2 to 3 times, increasing the steep time slightly with each infusion to enjoy the evolving flavor.
Does Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea have caffeine?
Yes. Annapurna Amber has a moderate caffeine level, roughly 25 to 45 mg per 8 oz cup, about a third of a typical coffee. The caffeine pairs naturally with L-theanine in oolong tea for a smooth, steady lift without coffee jitters. Many tea drinkers enjoy it as a late-morning or afternoon cup for focused energy.
What does Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea taste like?
Annapurna Amber has a rich, complex profile with caramel and malt up front, bright marmalade notes, and nutty undertones of toasted walnut and wheat. The amber liquor is smooth and medium-bodied, and the flavor deepens over multiple steeps. Fans of Wuyi rock oolongs or Taiwanese roasted oolongs often enjoy this tea for its similar dessert-like depth.
What are the health benefits of Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong Tea?
Like other premium organic oolong teas, Annapurna Amber naturally contains antioxidants and polyphenols, both green-tea catechins and black-tea theaflavins, unique to oolong's partial oxidation. These compounds may support digestion, metabolism, heart health and overall wellness. Enjoying it in place of sugary drinks is an easy way to add a comforting, low-calorie ritual to your day.
What awards has Annapurna Amber won?
Annapurna Amber Organic Oolong was awarded 2nd Place in the Dark Oolong category at the North American Tea Championship, scoring in the 'excellent' range and finishing one point behind the winner. The competition is blind-judged against entries from Taiwan, China, India, and other major tea-producing regions.
How is Annapurna Amber different from other Nepal oolongs?
Annapurna Amber is our award-winning dark oolong, with a Darjeeling-style roll and rich caramel-marmalade depth from medium-to-high oxidation. Ruby Organic Oolong is similar in style with toasted pecan and brown sugar notes, while Dragon Claw Golden is a lighter, floral golden-style oolong. Tihar Smoked is our oak-smoked specialty for Lapsang Souchong fans. Browse our full Nepal oolong collection to compare.
Is this tea single-origin and ethically sourced?
Yes. Annapurna Amber is a single-origin organic oolong tea from the Ilam highlands of eastern Nepal. Nepali Tea Traders works directly with small tea co-ops in Ilam, supporting a farmer-first sourcing model that keeps more value at origin and brings exceptional loose leaf tea to customers in the United States.
Can I re-steep these loose leaf tea leaves?
Absolutely. Annapurna Amber is rolled whole-leaf oolong designed for multiple infusions, most cups give 2 to 3 quality steeps. Add 15 to 30 seconds to each successive steep. Each infusion reveals new layers of caramel, malt, marmalade, and toasted grain.
How is Annapurna Amber packaged?
Annapurna Amber ships in two formats. The 3.2 oz pouch is a resealable, foil-lined bag designed to preserve freshness for everyday use. The 3 oz tin features our signature gift-ready packaging, beautiful, gift-suitable, and equally functional for daily storage. Both formats protect the tea from light and oxygen for extended shelf life.
How should I store Annapurna Amber for maximum freshness?
Store Annapurna Amber in a cool, dry place away from light, heat, moisture, and strong odors. The original pouch or tin is designed to preserve freshness, keep it sealed between uses. Avoid storing tea in the refrigerator (humidity damages the leaves) or near spices and coffee (tea absorbs aromas). Properly stored, this tea stays fresh for 18 to 24 months.
How many cups will the pouch or tin make?
The 3.2 oz pouch yields approximately 36 cups (8 oz each) at 2.5 grams per cup. The 3 oz tin yields approximately 34 cups. With 2 to 3 re-steeps per teaspoon, you can effectively double or triple these counts. Cost per cup runs less than $0.70 across both sizes.
Do you offer free shipping on Annapurna Amber?
Yes. Orders over $60 ship free within the contiguous United States. We ship from our Saugus, Massachusetts warehouse within 2 business days. Most US orders arrive within 2 to 5 business days.
